#Excerpt: NEEDING HER by Allie Everhart

 Excerpt
Rachel's POV
“Um, Pearce?” I yell out the shower door.
“Yes,” I hear him say from the bedroom.
“How do you turn the shower on?”
“I’ll show you. Can I come in?”
“Yeah.”
He comes in the bathroom and into the large walk-in shower, keeping his eyes on the tile wall and not my naked body. He puts his hand on one of the levers. “This one turns it on and this one adjusts the water temperature.” He points to one of the knobs. “If you want to adjust the shower heads, just turn this left or right. Each one has three settings.”
“Thank you.”
He smiles as he looks me up and down. “You’re very welcome.”
“Hey.” I swat at him. “You’re not supposed to look.”
“You didn’t make that clear when you invited me in here.”
“I didn’t invite you. I just asked for your help.”
“And I gave it to you.” He leans down and puts his lips to mine for a very slow, very sexy, very deliberate kiss.
He’s testing my will power. I’m naked. He’s in a towel. We’re in a shower. And his kiss is burning up my insides.
He stops suddenly and steps back out into the bathroom. “Mind if I shave while you’re in there?”
“Um, no, go ahead,” I say, stumbling on my words, my brain not fully functioning after that kiss. I start the water and adjust the temperature. Through the glass shower door, I see Pearce lathering up his face with shaving cream.
In the mirror, he catches me watching him and smiles, “How’s the shower?”
“It’s great.” I turn a little so that all three shower heads are raining down on me. “Actually, it’s pure heaven. So much better than mine. I’d love to have this shower.”
“You could if you lived here.”
I wipe the water from my eyes and see him running the razor over his face.
I decide to humor him. “How much is the rent?”
“How much do you pay for your current place?”
“Five hundred a month, plus utilities.”
“The rent here is only a hundred a month, utilities included.”
“Wow. That’s a bargain. But I’d have to drive a half hour to class every day. That’s a lot of gas money.”
“Even with gas, it’s still cheaper than your current place.”
“That’s true.” I close my eyes as the water runs over my face.
“So what do you think?”
I hear his voice right in front of me. I open my eyes and there he is. No towel this time. Just him. Freshly shaved and looking completely irresistible.
“I need to think about it,” I say, feeling breathless as my heart races in my chest.
He stands there, giving me an extremely sexy smile. I can’t take my eyes off him. I try, but I can’t. His body is amazing. I know he works out, but I’d like to know what kind of workout gets results like that. His body is hard. Solid. His muscles chiseled. I’m heating up even more just looking at him.
He steps closer, slipping his arm around my waist as he leans down and talks in my ear. “Would you like me to leave?” He trails soft, warm kisses along my neck as the water flows over us.
My eyes fall shut again as I shake my head, unable to respond verbally. I’m too focused on how good this feels. How turned on he makes me. How desperate I am for this to continue.
I feel his lips over mine as his hand slowly travels down my spine, just like when he gave me that massage last night, only this time there’s no waistband to stop him and his hand keeps going, skimming over my hip and my backside. His other hand moves behind my neck, holding me in place as his kiss goes deeper. My body’s on fire, exploding with sensations, which only intensify when his hand slips between my legs. He shows off his talent in this area once again, and moments later, I’m coming undone, finding it hard to remain standing as waves of pleasure roll through me.
His hand returns to my waist, holding me up. “Rachel.”
I open my eyes and see him looking at me. “Yes.”
“How well do you know me?”
I smile. “Well enough.”
I’m still recovering from what he did to me, my body ultra sensitive to his touch. But I’m ready for more. I’ve held out long enough. I want this. I want this so bad.

#Excerpt: SECRET BLEND by Jennifer Bramseth

Excerpt:
Brady put the water jug on the porch and turned to go, but hesitated. Should he wait a little longer to say goodbye for the evening in case she was showering and hadn’t heard him at the door? He shuddered at the image of Rachel taking a shower, lathering her hair, her body…

He took a deep breath, trying to still his thoughts, knowing that he was only going to drive himself crazy if he kept thinking about her.

But he couldn’t.

And that meant he was crazy about her.

Brady groaned and ran a hand over his face and began to walk away from the house.

Then, as he reached the driveway, he heard a splash.

So that’s where she was. He should’ve figured she’d be in the pool that evening.

Brady froze.

Did he want to be tormented by the sight of Rachel in a bathing suit? He closed his eyes and took several deep breaths. He could feel himself getting hard just at the thought of her, at hearing her splashing in the pool.

Even though he knew he couldn’t have her, that he was torturing himself, and that he should just walk away, he couldn’t bring himself to do it. A little glimpse of her in that pool would have to be his consolation prize.

BLURB:
When longtime courtroom rivals Rachel Richards and Brady Craft get appointed to the bench in Bourbon Springs, Kentucky, tempers flare as they are forced to share chambers.

Working closely with the obstinate-yet-sexy Brady is not an attractive idea to Rachel—although she has to admit that Brady himself is pretty damned attractive.

Rachel doesn't have to run for office to keep her judgeship, but Brady does. He draws a formidable opponent, Hannah Davenport, a wealthy co-owner of Old Garnet Distillery, where some of the finest Kentucky bourbon is crafted north of town along Old Crow Creek and near the historic springs which gave the town its unique name.

And Hannah just happens to be Rachel’s best friend.

As the judicial race heats up, so does the relationship between the judges—so they decide to keep it a secret.

But can any secret be kept in little Bourbon Springs, Kentucky?

SECRET BLEND is the first book in the Bourbon Springs Series, an upcoming nine-book series of smooth, sensual, sexy, slow-burn contemporary romances set amidst the lush and rolling Land of Bourbon and Bluegrass of central Kentucky.

#Excerpt: FAIREST OF THE FAIRE by Susabelle Kelmer

Excerpt:
“Who said anything about a relationship?” he said, standing up so he could tower over her again. “I’m just trying to have a little fun. You know, fun?”
If he’d been an animal, she was sure he’d have had hair raised on the back of his neck, he seemed so angry, and it struck her painfully. She hadn’t wanted to anger him or hurt him. She turned away from him and closed her eyes to tamp down the tears she knew would come if she let them. She crossed her arms over her chest, to hold in the pain. Being tired made her much too vulnerable.
“Yes,” she finally said. “I know about fun. Life isn’t always fun, though.”
“Princess.” His voice was soft, tender. “I won’t hurt you. It’s not in my plan.”
Despite herself, she felt the shivers of desire race down from her shoulders, down her arms and legs, and back up to that secret, soft place at her core. She bowed her head and gritted her teeth, hoping for the feeling to go away.
“And what is your plan, Gage?”
“It’s a simple plan. I want you to feel good. I want to feel good, too.”

#Excerpt: LOVE ALWAYS, DAMIAN by D. Nichole King

Excerpt:
Elizabeth
“Damian, are you there?” I repeat since he hasn’t said anything. “It’s me, Ellie,” I say, because he won’t recognize my new Florida cell phone number. I wanted a fresh start when I left Iowa, and that included seven new digits with an 850 area code.
A lot has changed in the last four years, and I wasn’t sure he’d remember my voice.
“Uh, yeah. I’m here,” he finally says, and in the background, I hear the clunk of glass hitting a table.
Inwardly, I cringe. I guess some things don’t change.
Just hang up, Ellie. This is a stupid idea.
I tuck my legs up under me, the wicker loveseat creaking. I should take my own advice, tell him this was a mistake, and figure something else out. Damian wasn’t the only reason I had to get away, but he was the biggest one.
“How’ve you been, Elle?” he asks.
He’s the only person who ever called me Elle. Liam started calling me Ellie when we began to date, but I was Elizabeth to everyone else. Even now, after all this time, a flood of chills sweeps up my spine as he says it.
I swallow, giving myself a second to reply. “I’m doing okay. You?”
Small talk is worthless. I should either end this call or get to the point. No use allowing these tiny ripples of emotion to make themselves at home in my stomach after I’ve worked so hard to keep them at bay. Destroying them by moving fifteen hundred miles away and immersing myself in my studies didn’t work, so this is the next best thing. Really, it’s all I can do to pretend they don’t exist. I can’t let them control me again.
“Yeah, I’m good. I’m good,” he says without conviction.
He’s not doing good. I can hear it in his voice. I also know the timing of this phone call sucks, but I won’t be in Iowa much longer, and I need to get this over with sooner rather than later. I’ve waited as long as I could, and now I’m cutting it super close.
The problem is I’m still debating whether or not to go through with my plans. Unfortunately, I’ve run out of options, and Damian is my absolute last choice since my friend Kerri had a family emergency and flew home to Canada last week. My plane leaves in two days, and if I don’t have something lined up, I can kiss this spectacular opportunity goodbye. Great Barrier Reef projects of this magnitude don’t come along every day. I need this to complete my thesis.
I only wish it hadn’t come down to asking Damian a favor. Of all things, that’s what I’m left with.
“Well, um, the reason I’m calling is that I’m in Iowa for a couple of days, and I was wondering if maybe we could…uh…meet up tomorrow morning?” I say against my better judgment. Then I hold my breath, half hoping he’ll tell me he never wants to see me again. Honestly, that would be best for both of us.
“Tomorrow morning?” he repeats. “Yeah, sure. We can do that.”
Dammit.
“Great. Um…”
“I have a place up in Ames, close to campus. I can text you the address.”
His place? I’d been hoping for somewhere a little more…public. But before I can suggest a change in venue, the flutters rippling under my skin make their way to my mouth. “Okay.”
I’m a glutton for punishment. So stupid.
We don’t have to stay at his house, though, right? I mean, when I arrive there tomorrow, I’ll suggest we go out for breakfast or something. The last thing I need is to be alone with him again. The last time I let my guard down with him…well, it’s the reason I’m meeting with him in the morning.
I’ve got to get myself under control before then. I’m twenty-four years old now, for God’s sake. I can handle this.
I straighten my back, sitting up taller for my own encouragement, and take a deep breath. “I’ll see you tomorrow, Damian.”
“Bye, Elle.”
Shit. That name again.
“Bye,” I breathe out and hang up before my heart rate doubles again. I lift my head to the porch ceiling, and suddenly I regret the whole conversation. I’m such an idiot! I shouldn’t have called him. I should have…I don’t know.
I don’t have another choice unless I call my professor and say “Screw the trip.” If I did, I’d be out a ton of money that took me over a year to save up, but hell. Maybe that’s worth not having to face Damian.
I mean, can he even handle it?
I peer into the backyard of my childhood home. So much has changed, yet so much has stayed the same. The old swing set my dad built for me still sits in the exact same spot it has for twenty years. Unused for the bulk of those years until the other day.
It’s nice to see my parents again in the flesh instead of over Skype. I haven’t been back since I left. Plane tickets are expensive, and between school, work, and everything else, I’ve never made the time to make it up. They did make it down to Florida once though, since I moved. Christmas, three years ago. Before Dad got too bad to travel.
This isn’t how I had envisioned my life. These aren’t the plans Liam and I made. Not even close.
As soon as we graduated from college, we were going to get married. Liam should be at Harvard Law right now while I teach kindergarteners how to read and write. Maybe we’d even be discussing when to start our own little family.
I take a drink of lemonade and set it back on the end table as I shake off the life I was never meant to have. The life Liam took with him when he died.
It’s been six years since I said goodbye to him. The first two after his death were the most difficult, but at least I had Damian to comfort me, numb me. And at first, that’s all our relationship had been about.
Then…then something shifted. For me, anyway. I can’t pinpoint when it happened exactly, I just know that when Kate Browdy entered his life, it tore mine apart for the second time. I have nothing against Kate; I never even met her.
But it was because of her I realized somewhere during those two years, I developed feelings for Damian. Feelings I tried hard to bury because they created a swell of guilt within me. I’d been Liam’s girlfriend, and now that he was gone, I was falling for his brother.
So, as soon as I finished the semester at Drake, I transferred to Florida State. I had to get away. Away from Liam. From the guilt and from the man who didn’t love me back.
And now, tomorrow morning, I have to ask that man a huge favor. A favor he knows absolutely nothing about, because I had to distance myself from him.
I have my life on track now. I have a goal for my future, and it doesn’t include Damian Lowell.
Hopefully, four years is enough time for my heart to forget how much I loved him.

Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

Synopsis:
They say time heals all wounds.
What a load of bull. It’s been four years, and Kate’s voice still echoes in my mind.
Every. Damn. Day.
I numb her memory when it taunts me. In college, I drown her out with booze and easy lays. I can’t do what she asked
I can’t let her go.
Not even when Lia shows up, freaking ripping what’s left of me to shreds. Caring about someone isn’t worth the deadness that follows after they’re gone. I didn’t ask for this. Didn’t ask for her.
And I sure as hell didn’t plan to miss her when she walked out of my front door.
Now, if I want to keep her, I have to straighten myself out and earn her. I can’t screw this up.
Because if I do, I’ll lose more than just Lia.
I’ll lose my life.

#Review: DRAGONS OF HEAVEN by Alyc Helms

  5 of 5 stars

I was first drawn to this book by the cover especially the dragon overlay. The story follows Missy Masters, a vigilante hero who assumes the guise of Mr. Mystic which was her grandfather's legacy. She roams the city correcting wrongs when she can, but there's more to Missy than her control of Shadows. To truly come into her powers, Missy travels to China, falls in love with her teacher Lung Haung, and becomes embroiled in politics of the nine dragon guardians of creation.

Ms. Helms tells the story in the "now" and "then" to let the reader understand what events have shaped Missy and how because of her very existence, the dragon guardians are warring. I thoroughly enjoyed the "then" chapters. They were steeped in Chinese dragon guardian lore and the story moved along with intrigue and suspense. The "now" China is in trouble and it's up to Missy to walk the minefield that is dragon guardian territory if she has any hopes of saving the world. Will she be able to match wits with creatures older than creation itself? Fans of fantasy will thoroughly enjoy this tale. Highly Recommended.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

#Excerpt: HENRY GALLANT AND THE WARRIOR by H. Peter Alesso

EXCERPT:
Lieutenant Henry Gallant walked along the cobblestone streets of New Annapolis—head down, mind racing . . .

My orders say take command of the Warrior immediately . . . but no promotion . . . Why not?

He pondered the possibilities, but he already knew the answer. Though he had steely gray eyes, a square jaw, and was taller than nearly everyone around him, what distinguished him most was not visible to the naked eye—he was a Natural—born without genetic engineering.

By the time he reached the space elevator, the welcoming breeze of the clear brisk morning had brightened his mood and he fell into line behind the shipyard personnel without complaint.

Looking up, he marveled; that cable goes into the clouds like an Indian rope trick.

When at last it was his turn, the guard scanned his comm pin against the access manifest.

The portal light blinked red.

“Pardon, sir. Access denied,” said the grim faced sentry.

“Call the officer of the guard,” demanded Gallant.

The officer of the guard appeared, but was no more inclined to pass Gallant through. He touched the interface panel and made several more entries, but the portal continued to blink red.

“There’s a hold on your access, sir.”

Gallant asked, “A hold?”

“Yes, sir. Your clearance and authorization are in order, but SIA has placed a hold on your travel movements. They want you to report to SIA headquarters, ASAP.”

“I need to go to the shipyard and attend to important business before going to the Solar Intelligence Agency,” clarified Gallant, but even as he said it, he knew it wouldn’t help.

“Sorry, sir. Orders.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
In the 22th Century, the people of the Solar System have banded together against an alien invasion. Unfortunately, they’re losing—badly.
As the only Natural remaining in the genetically engineered officer corps of the United Planet’s fleet, Henry Gallant has unique mental abilities that have proven essential to the defense against the Titan invaders. Nevertheless his fellow officers lack faith in him, and worse, he has angered prominent men by speaking truth to power.
Despite this, Admiral Collingsworth has given him command of the Warrior, the most advanced stealth warship in the UP arsenal, and ordered him to the alien’s main base to spy, intrigue, and disrupt their war capacity.
Gallant’s mission leads to risky battles and painful choices, but no choice is more personal, or intimate, than the choice to face one’s own death. And for Henry Gallant—a flawed young man in a hopeless situation against overwhelming odds—a dreadful decision looms before him.
He has only one saving grace—he is unafraid.
#Excerpt: TIME IS RELATIVE FOR A KNIGHT OF TIME by Brett Matthew Williams
Excerpt:
“What do you think, then?” came Judah’s voice, as Blaisey zoned back into their conversation.
Blaisey looked at him and saw him staring back at her. To her astonishment, Blaisey realized that Judah was asking for her opinion. Aside from his rather informal introduction, this was the first time that Judah had addressed her directly. Her surprise must have been evident to him, as Judah’s lips crept into a thin, lopsided smile around the cigarette.
“I knew a man once,” Blaisey said, in a calm, soothing voice. Her father, Nahoy – leader of the Nabawoo, had told her that white people prefer when natives speak in a calm, slow, relaxing tone. He believed that it goaded the white man into a false sense of superiority that their people could use as an advantage.
Blaisey had seen this as slightly sneaky and underhanded, but those were thoughts from before the days of Jackson’s terror, before the days of people falling out of the sky at daybreak and being kidnapped by American soldiers in the middle of the night.
“This man, he rolled and smoked his tobacco, like you,” Blaisey continued.
“Oh, yeah?” Judah asked, the cigarette in his mouth bobbing between his lips as he spoke. “What brand? I’m a Luckys man myself.” He sniffed and lifted his head proudly, his chin held high.
“This I do not know,” Blaisey said, smiling out of politeness. “And we cannot ask him, for he is dead.”
At this, Judah stopped his search for the lighter and looked at Blaisey head on, giving her his full attention for the first time. “From smoking tobacco, right?”
“No,” Blaisey said with vigor. “He was an ass like you, and somebody shot him.”
