Lady Sarah
Strathford has mourned her beloved husband for two years and is ready to put
away her mourning dresses. She would love nothing more than to fall
passionately in love with a gentleman or, at the very least, have an affair
with one. The problem is that her brother is pushing her into the arms of his
best friend, Lord Lumsley, but Sarah wants nothing to due with his match-making.
When the dashing Cornelius Ravenhill offers his assistance in solving a mystery
surrounding her late husband’s death, Sarah is smitten. What she doesn’t know,
however, is that Mr. Ravenhill has his own reasons for getting close to her.
Will he be the passionate lover she’s looking for or the dashing rake that will
break her heart?
I really
enjoyed this story. The characters of Sarah and Damen were rich and their
interactions with each other wonderful and believable. Damen wants to find out
who attacked his brother Cornelius, but he’s tied up in knots about deceiving
Sarah. Sarah, against her better judgment, is falling for the handsome rake.
The mystery they become embroiled in is full of intrigue and danger and it will
take all of Damen’s wits and brawn to bring them through it. I loved seeing
Sarah’s character grow from a meek shell of a woman into one full of
self-confidence. Ms. Hanlen has written a compelling love story—one full of
twists and turns that will keep you glued until the final pages. Fans of
historical romance will definitely enjoy this book! Highly recommended.
