Her father hires a matron to help Jo navigate the choppy waters of the ton and when she meets Lord Gareth Reade, she's drawn to the dark and dangerous lord. Reade's work for the Home Office is his top priority and he has no plans to marry until he sees Miss Dalrymple at a ball. Though he fights against his attraction to her, the more he sees her the more he craves her company. When Jo is kidnapped, Reade can no longer deny his feelings, but will he find her in time before she's lost to him forever?
This was an enjoyable story with two likeable main characters. Jo was sweet and tries hard to be kind to everyone including the servants in their rented London townhouse. I loved how she wouldn't give up when her friend goes missing. Reade on the other hand is the perfect flawed hero who's guilt over not saving soldiers during the war is his constant companion and leads him to work for the Home Office trying to uncover an evil plot of kidnapping young women for sale to the brothels or slave markets. The plot ramps up when the kidnappings happen to Jo's friend. There's a few twists in the book to keep you turning the pages to find out how it all ends. There is only one brief sex scene in the book.
