#Review: MADE FOR THE MARQUESS by Alexa Anton

  3 of 5 stars

Lieutenant-Colonel Percival Perry longs to leave the brutal war and his nightmares behind, but soon finds his wish fulfilled only because his older beloved brother dies in a sailing accident. Now thrust into the role of marquess, Percy is out of his depth. He was never supposed to inherit and doesn't know how to run his estate or make his way in polite society. Thankfully, his brother-in-arms, the Second Sons, have all been in similar situations and along with their wives help Percy navigate his way. Miss Minta Nicholls arrives from Canada for her much delayed coming out and is befriended by the wives of the Second Sons. It's where the meets Percy for the first time, but he's awkward and sullen around her. She suspects he's uncomfortable in his new position and finds herself drawn to him. Can they find common ground and possibly their own HEA?

There's not much action in this story, but instead follows Percy as he tries to reconcile himself to private life. His nightmares are the villains and almost destroy his chance at happiness with Minta. I liked Minta. She was level-headed, compassionate, and kind to others. She was also strong-willed and would not let Percy hide his broken soul from her. The story merely plods along with some steamy sex scenes toward the end. There are no big surprises or twists and turns in the story. Together Percy and Minta faced his demons and eventually found their HEA. It was a pleasant read. I suspect Win's story with Minta's twin is next up and that could prove an interesting read.

I voluntarily read the advanced reader copy and all opinions are my own.
