#Review: BLOOD OF DRAGONS by Robin Hobb

5 of 5 stars

I've read all of Robin Hobb's books and I thoroughly enjoyed her latest series Rain Wild Chronicles. BLOOD OF DRAGONS is the exciting conclusion in this series and it is a riveting and engrossing book. The story follows the arduous journey of Tingalia, the oldest queen dragon, as she tries to reach the magical city of Kelsingra. She has been wounded and needs the elusive Silver to heal herself. The young dragons have grown and their Elderlings learn what it really means to be tied to these unpredictable creatures. The hunt is on to unlock the secrets of the magical city and the desperate search for a new vein of Silver.

There are a lot of characters in this story and Ms. Hobb handles each of their story arcs well. Alise has to figure who she is now that she's living in Kelsingra and not the wife of vindictive trader Hest. My favorite characters are Thymara and Tats, the young Elderlings, and their journey to becoming young adults. But by far, the best part of the story is of course the dragons. Arrogant queen Santara, drakes Mercor and Kelo plus the other dragons make this story come alive. I loved their perspectives as they regard their Elderling keepers and their role in this new world - a world where dragons rule once again. I have one minor complaint and that is the dragon war was way too short. I would have loved to see more detail about that, but even that doesn't take away the enjoyment of this book. Fans of Ms. Hobb and dragon stories will definitely enjoy this series. Highly Recommended.
