I've been a fan of Ms. Galen for a while now and have
thoroughly enjoyed her previous books. "To Ruin a Gentleman" is the
start of a new series and I absolutely loved it! The story is told from father
to son and follows the widowed Comtesse Angelette and Viscount Hugh Daventry
during the start of the French revolution. I felt like I was living through
this awful time the writing was so visceral. Not many authors can successfully
convey a complete story in a novella, but Ms. Galen accomplishing just that. I couldn't
read fast enough to find out what happened to Hugh and Angelette during that
time.
I loved Tom's reaction after his father had finished telling
him the tale of the real Scarlet Pimpernel. He was dumbfounded as he always
believed his parents were extremely dull. What other secrets did his parents have? I'm
looking forward to reading the rest of the stories in this series.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and
honest review and was not obligated to leave a review.
