#Review: THE STOLEN PRINCESS by Nikki Jefford

  3.5 of 5 stars

As the story opens up, Aerith is doing everything to keep her family fed, but her abusive father and lazy sister don’t lift a finger to help her. With all their belongings sold off, Aerith is forced to hunt for their next meal. She resents them, but cares for her younger Melarue who is innocent in all the drama. When the Fae come to the village of Pinemist looking for an Elven bride, Aerith’s father pushes her into the contest. Much to her dismay, Aerith wins the contest and is swept into the land of the Fae to become Queen to the current king. When the king is murdered by his brother fifteen months later, Aerith is finally free to come back to Pinemist. Unfortunately for her, the current king Liri kidnaps her and brings her back to Fae land to become his new queen.

There was a lot going on in this book and while I liked Aerith, I thought her younger sister, Mel, was a spoiled brat. She did whatever she wanted without any regard for how it would affect others. It took Aerith’s kidnapping for Mel to start thinking about her sister. I was happy to see that. The Fae world Ms. Jefford creates is harsh where conspiracy, betrayal and murder rule. Only the strong or the very cunning survive.

I was a little thrown toward the end when Hensley’s POV came into play. That was a bit jarring and would have preferred to stay with Aerith’s POV instead. She was kind of looked over and had only one sentence to explain what happens to her. I suppose both sisters’ story continue in the next book, but I wasn’t taken with these characters enough to find out what happens next.

I voluntarily read a copy of this book and all opinions are my own.

Stolen Princess

Genres: Fairy Tales, Fantasy, New Adult, Retelling

She sacrificed herself to save her family from poverty…
The ball was only the beginning.
It wasn’t enough to kill my mate, heir to the throne. My obsessive Fae brother-in-law wants the crown. And he wants me ruling by his side.
I thought I was done with romance until a certain pompous elf reappeared in my life at the illustrious Monster Ball. A little teasing led to bruised lips and captured hearts. No one wants Jhaeros and me to be together, not even my favorite sister, Melarue. But she’s a teenager just coming into her elemental powers and discovering boys—the wrong kind—the type I want to shoot arrows through.
My royal in-laws are playing a treacherous game, and my brother-in-law is determined to get what he wants. But this elf princess no longer has a master. I don’t want a crown. I want freedom, family, and the love of a lifetime. But love might be the one thing that destroys us all.
**This book will now include the prequel novella Enemies and Lovers.

  2. Thank you for hosting a review spot on the tour! Aerith ends up being a main POV in the next book, False Queen (despite the cover and book blurb. She's my spirit elf. lol) 🧝🏹💖
