#Review: FALL OF SKY CITY by S.M. Blooding

4 of 5 stars

FALL OF SKY CITY is an ambitious debut for author S.M. Blooding. To start, the cover of this book is phenomenal, very eye-catching. Her world building skills are amazing although I did have a hard time trying trying to picture the letharans, but that did not take away from my enjoyment of the book. The story is a wonderful mix of fantasy and steampunk and moves along at a fast clip.

Because of all the action in the book, I found that some of the secondary characters were a bit flat, Nix, in particular. She was portrayed as just evil, but why was she so evil. What was her back story and why was she so obsessed with everyone "loving" her? I would have liked to learn what made her "tick." Synn, on the other hand, was very well written. He's a young man who is a bit naive, but then he's captured and forced to endure unimaginable torture at the hands of Queen Nix. He matures quickly and has an inner fortitude that keeps him going. I knew what was going to happen before the ending, but it was still an enjoyable story. No spoilers here. You'll have to read the book to find out what happens to Synn. Fans of fantasy and steampunk will thoroughly enjoy this book. Recommended.
