#Review: ATONE by Jessica Grey

4 of 5 stars

ATONE is the first story I've read by Jessica Grey. I wasn't sure if I'd be lost because I hadn't read the first story in the Fairytale Trilogy, but the author does a superb job of including snippets of back story to flesh out the characters. This modern retelling of the fairytale "Beauty and the Beast" was engaging, full of unexpected twists and turns and definitely a page turner. It is well-written with fun characters and has excellent pacing throughout the story.

Would Becca figure out what happened to Nicholas and find a way to help him before he's lost to the Beast? I enjoyed the interactions between Becca and Nicholas. Of course, she despises him at the beginning, but that begins to change the longer she stays in his home and talks with him. Nicholas is a shallow, arrogant, self-absorbed man who's used to getting what he wants with his good looks. He has a lot to atone for in his past actions and the self-realization of his part in his current predicament is eye-opening for him. Lilia and Alex were also great additions to the story as the 3 girls supported each other. From the opening pages to the exciting conclusion, I was engrossed in the story. Ms. Grey is a talented writer and fans of fairy tales will not be disappointed with this story. Recommended.

I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

#Review: FROZEN by Melissa de la Cruz & Michael Johnston

5 of 5 stars

In this post-apocalyptic YA tale the Earth is covered with ice, the RSA (Remaining States of America) military rule with an iron hand terrorizing citizens and hunting the "marked"-- citizens with strange and magical powers. The marked are sent to a military treatment center whose official front is to help these afflicted citizens, but when in fact, the military uses them for nefarious purposes. Nat Kestal is one of few who has ever escaped the treatment center. She makes her way to New Vegas where she hires an ex-mercenary Ryan Wesson to take her across the ocean to the mystical land of the Blue. Ryan has heard the rumors about the land of Blue where the land is lush and green, but he doubts its existence. Nat has money to pay for the expedition and Ryan whose crew is slowly starving reluctantly takes the job. What happens next will keep you on your toes.

The authors do a fantastic job of pulling the reader in with the opening pages of the voice inside Nat's mind. Their world building skills paint a vivid picture of a dying ice-covered Earth filled with polluted oceans that have swallowed continents whole and boast piles of trash as big as icebergs. Dangerous slavers and pirates roam the seas preying on pilgrims trying to reach the Blue. Everything has a price and the authors throw one riveting heart-pounding scene after another in this fast-paced adventure. The connection between Wes and Nat adds a touch of romance to the story, but doesn't overshadow the action. The major story arc is resolved, but there is much more story to tell. Can't wait to see what happens in the next book!

I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This book goes on sale on September 17, 2013.

Interview with Donna Fasano

Can you give us a brief overview of your latest book? Is it part of a series?
Reclaim My Heart is a stand-alone, contemporary romance. The male and female protagonists fell in love as teens and parted ways under stressful circumstances. The story begins fifteen-years later, when the teenaged son of the female lead gets himself arrested and is need of a lawyer. Here's the official "blurb" –

Sixteen years ago, Tyne Whitlock cut all ties to her past and left town under the shameful shadow of a teenage pregnancy. Now her fifteen-year-old son is in trouble with the law and she is desperate for help. But reaching out to high-powered attorney Lucas Silver Hawk will tear open the heart-wrenching past in ways Tyne never imagined.

Forced to return to the Delaware Indian community where Lucas was raised, Tyne and Lucas are tempted by the heated passion that consumed them as teens. Tyne rediscovers all the reasons she found this man irresistible, but there are scandalous secrets waiting to be revealed, disgraceful choices made in the past that cannot be denied. Love is a powerful force that could heal them both--if the truth doesn't rip them apart.

Do you have a favorite character?
Many, many reviewers mention Uncle Jasper as being their favorite character. He touched my heart, too. He is a Native American Elder, wise and warm-hearted.

Have you ever had a minor character evolve into a major one? Did that change the direction of the novel at all?
My characters often change the story I'm trying to tell, but that only tells me that they have strong voices. That's a good thing. I have two minor characters in this book that touched readers: Zach, the teenaged son of Tyne and Lucas, and Uncle Jasper. I have decided to let both of these characters live in my head for a while to see if they have stories of their own to tell. Who knows? I might end up with a couple of spin-off books.

Did you try the traditional route to publishing, i.e. querying agents/publishers?
Yes. Many years ago, I finished my first romance novel just to prove to myself that I could take a story to completion. I had worked for 18 long months on it, so I was afraid to send it out to publishers. One little "no" from an editor and I would have been crushed. So I entered my book in an international contest sponsored by Romance Writers of America. The book won a finalist spot, and the final judge was an editor from Harlequin. I didn't win the contest, but the editor bought my manuscript and published my book.

Do you outline your story or just go where your muse takes you?
I see an outline as a sort of roadmap. I would never set off on a journey without a map. However, I have often veered off the outline if a character needed it, or the story took an interesting turn. An author never can tell where a story might go, and the best stories, I believe, are ones that surprise me during the telling.

Did you hire an editor to review your manuscript before publishing?
Yes, I hire and editor and a proof-reader. I also have a group of wonderful beta-readers who look for typos, missing words, and loose threads.

Besides Amazon, are there any other sites where your books are for sale?
My ebooks are for sale in the Kindle Store, the Nook Book Store, the Kobo Store, the iTunes iBook Store, and a few are available at Smashwords. My trade paperbacks are available at Amazon, Barnes & Nobel, The Book Depository, and other retail outlets. My audio books are available at Amazon, Audible.com, and iTunes.

What kinds of marketing [twitter, facebook, blog, forums] are you involved with for promoting your book(s)?
I'm on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+, and Tumblr. I have a personal blog called Donna Fasano, In All Directions, and I post everything there from book news to recipes to essays on life in general. I have a romance novel blog called Awesome Romance Novels where I promote, well, romance novels. Both my blogs offer readers the opportunity to subscribe via email so they won't miss a single post.

Do you find it difficult to juggle your time between marketing your current book and writing your next book?
I'm still working on balancing the writing/marketing aspect of being an Indie Author. I try to do a bit of marketing each day by finding a new blogger who might be interested in interviewing me or reading/reviewing my book or finding a new forum to visit or organizing a giveaway of some sort. I am easily sucked in by the internet. Self-discipline is key for an author who has stories to tell!

Besides writing, do you have any other passions?
I have so many passions, I don't have time for all of them. I love to cook and can read cookbooks as passionately as I do fiction. I have a love affair with food (and my hips are proof!). I love the outdoors and I spend lots of time walking and kayaking and riding my bicycle. I love to socialize and I have lots of friends. I've done some traveling, but I haven't done nearly enough of it. And I love to read! Books can take you places you've never been, introduce you to interesting people and cultures. Oh, yes, I love to read.

#Review: BLOOD OF DRAGONS by Robin Hobb

5 of 5 stars

I've read all of Robin Hobb's books and I thoroughly enjoyed her latest series Rain Wild Chronicles. BLOOD OF DRAGONS is the exciting conclusion in this series and it is a riveting and engrossing book. The story follows the arduous journey of Tingalia, the oldest queen dragon, as she tries to reach the magical city of Kelsingra. She has been wounded and needs the elusive Silver to heal herself. The young dragons have grown and their Elderlings learn what it really means to be tied to these unpredictable creatures. The hunt is on to unlock the secrets of the magical city and the desperate search for a new vein of Silver.

There are a lot of characters in this story and Ms. Hobb handles each of their story arcs well. Alise has to figure who she is now that she's living in Kelsingra and not the wife of vindictive trader Hest. My favorite characters are Thymara and Tats, the young Elderlings, and their journey to becoming young adults. But by far, the best part of the story is of course the dragons. Arrogant queen Santara, drakes Mercor and Kelo plus the other dragons make this story come alive. I loved their perspectives as they regard their Elderling keepers and their role in this new world - a world where dragons rule once again. I have one minor complaint and that is the dragon war was way too short. I would have loved to see more detail about that, but even that doesn't take away the enjoyment of this book. Fans of Ms. Hobb and dragon stories will definitely enjoy this series. Highly Recommended.

Interview with Amy Mosier

Can you give us a brief overview of your latest book? Is it part of a series?
Midnight Guests and Other Weird Stories is a collection of 13 short horror tales, all of which take place in Arizona. I'm a native and I used some of our unique folklore and blended it with the stories. For example, the Navajos believe in almost everything, including shape-shifters. From this, I created a monster for the second story. I also created two cautionary tales, like something similar to what you'd see on The Twilight Zone. But they're thoroughly modern; one is about texting and driving.

Do you have a favorite character?
I like Harvey from the fifth story, “The Wind in the Hollow”. The story is told from his perspective but the story focuses more on his friend, Jakob. I like Harvey because even though he's just a farmer's boy, he is intuitive and spiritually connected. He's Jakob's cheerleader when he is depressed.

Are you currently under a traditional publishing contract for future books or do you have manuscripts that you will self-publish? Are you doing both?

I will always self-publish. Traditional publishers don't work well for me for the same reasons Congress is in a rut right now: too many promises, not enough doing, not working with the best intentions, too many people that need a swift kick off their high horse. I hope traditional publishers go the same way as the dinosaurs.

If you used a graphic designer/publisher’s designer, how involved were you during the creative process for your cover?

I didn't use somebody else's services. People say “just pay somebody to make you a cover”. Well, that'd be great if I had $200 but I don't. I have $5. So it's up to me to do it. For this book's cover, I went to South Mountain. Some people might recognize the stone house as Scorpion Gulch, a historical house that was isolated inside the mountains 50 years ago. I learned how to import fonts into the Paint software and so I imported this cool font called Endor. I like its spikiness.

Do you belong to a critique group? Have they helped improve your writing?
No, I find it very difficult to connect to people, even with the internet. I see people's profiles like reviewers and such, and when I try to email them, they don't respond. I guess there's so much email traffic, I get lost in the crowd. So again, I am left to do the work. I know what good writing is; I just have to make sure I follow the common sense advice. Show, don't tell. If you use 1st person perspective, make sure you don't change it for the remainder of the story. Don't use adverbs and adjectives liberally. Tone it down on the “he said”, “she said”. Instead of generic “car”, use an actual model, like “gray Kia Amanti”.

Do you outline your story or just go where your muse takes you?
I don't think it's wise to just start writing without a plan. What if things change? For short stories, I make a one-page outline and fill in details like names, ages, surprise twists, etc. That way, I can tweak the story and convince the reader that it's about one thing and not the other. Then they're surprised when it's really about something else.

Did you hire an editor to review your manuscript before publishing?
Again, I can't afford an editor, however, I treat my book like a resumé. In fact, I used to typeset and print resumés for a job. I do several checks. Besides spelling and punctuation, I also check for “flow”, how the sentences sound when I read them in a linear way. I don't want too many stop and go sentences. My run-on sentences can be shortened and fixed with semi-colons. I'm not as bad as Nathaniel Hawthorne though. That man could write an entire book with one run-on sentence.

Do you find it difficult to juggle your time between marketing your current book and writing your next book?
No, not at all and that's because I've been unemployed for the last four years. It's a mixed blessing. I always wanted to write a book and got so manipulated by the working, hyper-consumerism culture. I value my time and when I think about all the hours I put in working for other people and not myself, it makes me mad. Now I can pursue my true passion.

What advice would you give a new author just entering into the self-publishing arena?
Make a Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest account. But also create a Yelp account. One of the things that really draws traffic to my Amazon page and personal website has been writing reviews for places I go anyway. On the sidebar, Yelp lets you create a hyperlink to your website. In the picture grid, I put the covers for all 4 of my books. They don't seem to have a problem with it.

What’s next for you?
I'm on vacation. I take a three-month vacation between each book and I just want to take more hikes, go sightseeing, learn more about desert plant edibles, read some indie books and leave them some reviews as well as continuing my research on the Voynich Manuscript, this mysterious book with a weird language in it.

#Review: DREAM by Robbi Bryant

5 of 5 stars

I was lucky enough to win this book in a giveaway contest. First, let me say that the cover is stunningly beautiful and fits so well with the book. This is the story of sex-addict beautician Veronica and her adventures when she talks to a stranger in the grocery store. Andrew turns out to be sexy and mysterious and Veronica can't help herself and goes on a date with him. He introduces her to a dream world and Veronica can't get enough. What happens next will blow you away.

The author spins a tale with vivid and lush descriptions and I was drawn into the story right away. I was intrigued, stunned and totally captivated by this story and couldn't put the book down. The imagination of Ms. Bryant is incredible. The ending has a great twist that I didn't see coming. With a touch of fantasy, mystery and romance, this book has wide appeal to readers. Highly Recommended.

 Chapter 1

Present day Boston

Nic Stannic slid through the throngs of people like water flowing downhill. He was a handsome man, taller than average, with broad shoulders and a narrow waist that attracted more than a few casual looks from the women on this level of the club. He walked as if they existed for his pleasure alone, constantly looking, judging, and dismissing as he made his way past them.
More than once he was met with a suggestive look or the brush of a friendly hand, but none of the females were what he was looking for this night. As he made his way to the edge of the balcony, a young woman stepped up and smiled provocatively. Her hair was long and dark, hanging over a loose halter of near-sheer silk that barely covered her bronzed-to-perfection breasts. Nic looked her up and down, admiring her long, sleek legs that disappeared beneath a short skirt of some animal pattern he didn’t recognize. Her midriff was bare and toned, with just the right amount of muscle to accentuate her feminine sexuality. She was beautiful, and a temptress, judging by the way she was prancing in front of him.
He’d been looking for quite some time tonight, and thought that he had found the one he’d been searching for. As she moved closer, he caught the smell of alcohol on her breath and saw a slight distortion in her eyes, which spoke volumes about the amount of liquor she had consumed. That would not do. He shook his head slightly, smiling sadly, and stepped around her. She pursed her pouty lips and sighed deeply in disappointment in a last attempt at attracting him, but he had other ideas and walked on.
When he reached the balcony’s edge, he leaned over the balustrade and let the music wash over him. It was intoxicating, and he enjoyed the captivating rhythm as he watched the undulating sea of half-naked bodies dancing below him. The club was crowded tonight. The dancers moved in intricate shows of sensuality; their bodies flowing with invitation and glistening in promise. Their casual touches and subtle caresses promised a night full of passion and pleasure. The rush and excitement of this erotic interplay filled the atmosphere with an exhilarating mix of sexual anticipation and need. Nic watched and breathed it all in deeply.
The nightclub was decorated in the latest nouveau fashion, with chrome stretching from ceiling to floor. Gigantic speakers blasted music nonstop all night long. Lights were hung around the perimeter of the ceiling, strategically placed and focused to highlight the club’s raised DJ platform and the large, centered dance floor. Two bars positioned on either side of the dance floor were constantly queued with clientele waiting to be served. The bartenders gave shows of their own as they swirled and tossed the many bottles used in mixing all manner of exotic drinks. The overflowing tip jars were a testament to their showmanship.
The balcony Nic stood on surrounded three-quarters of the dance floor and gave an unobstructed, panoramic view of the dancers and patrons below. The club was a bastion of Boston’s nightlife and a magnet for the young, beautiful, rich, and pretentious alike.
It was the perfect hunting ground.

Interview with Wylie Snow

What’s the scoop on the romance? Why can’t the hero and heroine get on with their sweet loving?
You’d think, since he saved her life, that Cleo would instantly fall into Libra’s arms in a heap of grateful, quivering lady-love. The physical chemistry is undeniable, but she doesn’t trust the urbanite as far as she could spit.

Cleo is a ‘triber’ from the Taiga forest and Libra hails from the city of Gomeda. They have some serious misconceptions to overcome and it doesn’t help that they’re both lying through their teeth about, well,… everything.

What the heck is a Taiga?
Also known as a boreal forest, the Taiga (pronounced ty-guh) is the world’s largest land biome and comprises 29% of the world’s forest. It circles the globe, with the largest bits located in Russia and Canada. The winters are long, cold and harsh. In Jump Zone, the Taiga is divided into regional tribes named for common animals like wolverine, beaver, bear, wolf, moose, etc...

Survivalists by nature, the tribers are protective of their lands, and their resources. Especially their energy source. Shhh… spoilers!

What makes Jump Zone’s hero sexy?
Libra is the Robin Hood of Gomeda. Born into a wealthy, powerful family, he eschews his high-born status and fights for the marginalized citizens living in the slums of Gomeda. His idealism gets him a sentence of hard labor in the penal colony but it also gives him the hardened edge he needs to survive the coming turmoil.

Fave line?
“For the record, I’ve never killed another human being. Not even a Banger.” Cleo Rush says this when defending her reputation against Libra’s assumptions that she’s some kind of savage. Second fave is, “You’ve never had bacon? You poor, deprived soul.”  Because… obviously!

Where did you get the idea for your story?
I had an idea for a post-apocalyptic Romeo and Juliet type of story but the world didn’t begin building in my head until a family vacation took us on a drive through Northern Ontario. The untamed beauty of the landscape literally took my breath away. Miles and miles of uninhabited land, a stunning palette of greens and dark blues, harsh rocky outcrops. I thought, “What if I had to survive out here…”

Is this a stand-alone or part of a series?
Cleo Falls is book one of the Jump Zone trilogy. Libra Rising is scheduled to release in December 2013, followed by the series conclusion in the spring of 2014.

Book Synopsis:
All Cleo wants, all she’s ever wanted, is the acceptance of her tribe and the love of her family... and she almost dies trying to earn it. But the man who saved her, who found beauty in her flaws and loved her without condition, has cruelly betrayed her, and she’s dying all over again.

Was it all lies? His words, his promises, his kisses? Lost in unfamiliar territory, Cleo will fight the forces that conspire to destroy her homeland, even if she has to do it alone.

Libra longs for freedom—from prison, from pretense, and from his birthright... but he’s caught in a political game where only greed and power can win, and Cleo Rush is the pawn. How much is he willing to sacrifice for liberty? His morals, his principles, the woman he loves? No matter which path he chooses, people will die, their blood on his hands. And it could be hers.

To save themselves and their world, Cleo and Libra must overcome the double tragedy that binds their families in hatred. Together, they might live. Apart, Cleo will fall.

Excerpt:

Taiga Forest
I’d always presumed the moments before death would be fuzzy and warm.
They’re not. Death is painful. And cold.
Death is terrifying.
For me, there are no sepia vignettes of my childhood, no sign of my mother’s smiling face to usher me into a blissful afterlife, open armed. There’s nothing to distract me from the fright that slams me every time my mouth fills, every time my head slips under.
No matter how hard I kick or thrash, the current is merciless, dragging me downriver, closer to the edge, closer to the—
I can’t even think the word.
I claw for the surface, flailing desperately for something to grab onto. But there’s nothing. Not a rock, not a log, not even a stray root. Even if by some miracle I don’t drown, there is nothing to save me from the fall.
Seventy feet, straight down.
And the rocks at the bottom… I’ll be smashed.
My chest burns so bad, I want to scream from it. Can’t, don’t dare. I bite down on the inside of my lips to seal them from another mouthful of icy water and taste the copper of my blood. I will my legs to get me to the surface for another breath, but I’m tumbling through the blackness, not sure which way is up.
The rapids twist and toss me, pull me fast and hard as if they’re doing me a favor in getting me to the edge quickly. It’ll be over soon. Yet every agonizing second feels never-ending.
The more my muscles ache from cold, the heavier my limbs become, the slower time goes. Death is a cruel bitch.
My lungs are on fire. And no matter that my eyeballs feel like they’ve been dunked in acid, panic won’t let me close them.
There’s a legend amongst my people of a Ghost Warrior, a survivalist from Old Canada who lost his life in the Polar Wars. They say he guides folks home in their time of need, gives them a second chance. Where is this phantom rescuer for me? Am I not worthy?
I already know the answer…
The pressure in my chest begins to crack me open. I acknowledge my fate, look it in the eye, welcome it. The thought frees me. The simple act of mental acquiescence releases my fear, replaces it with regret. And anger. I’ll never get a chance to make amends to my tribe, to Jaegar or my father, never feel the love I’ve tried so hard, so damned hard, to earn.
Anger fuels my strength, gives me a final burst of energy. My anaesthetized legs push off of something solid. My head breaches the surface.
I scream in Death’s face.
Then water fills me, douses my fire. I am numb, unable to feel my extremities, unable to feel anything. Like a piece of flotsam, the current tosses me over the precipice toward the jagged rocks below. My world goes dark.

AUTHOR BIO:
Almost every author says they wanted to write from a very early age. Not me. I wanted to be a detective like Nancy Drew, or a wildlife expert like Jim Fowler or an archaeologist like Indiana Jones. Or have my own island resort and make fantasies come true!

I didn't do too badly with any of those...
I married a detective, worked in a zoo, explored ship wrecks instead of old ruins, and spent 18 glorious years living on a sunny island.

As for those fantasies...
I also write erotic romance as Wylie Kinson.

Interview with Phaedra Seabolt

Can you give us a brief overview of your latest book? Is it part of a series?
At this time I only have one book published, Imperfection. The overall story is about Meara Falk, a college girl who finds out that there is more to the world than she had imagined. She is not some drop dead gorgeous girl, commonly found at the specific college she attends, but rather a plump geek. After a single night of fun, her life spirals into the unknown. This first happens by having a baby and then later when she is turned into a werewolf. Her son is kidnapped by a rival werewolf pack and now she is out to get him back.

It is the first book in my Pure Blood series. The second book has been written, but it is currently in the first stage of edits. I am hoping to have it published in 2014.

Do you have a favorite character?
I assume this is in reference to my book, and the answer is yes. However, he is not actually in the first book. His name is James Kearney. He’s of Irish descent with short dusty red hair and gorgeous blue eyes. He’s based on a character from a roleplaying game I once played. I have high hopes for him in the series.

Did you try the traditional route to publishing, i.e. querying agents/publishers?
I did query one company, but they were not interested due to the genre. After that I started talking to my book tour friends. I discovered that one of them was going to start her own publishing company, so I sent her my manuscript. The rest is now history.

How long before you got your offer of representation/your first contract? Was it for your first novel?
Ummm…About a month and yes it was for my first book.

What factors influenced your decision to go with a particular agent or publisher?
I saw this as a mutual risk/benefit situation. Since it was my first book, they were taking a huge risk on me. There’s no promise that my book will do well or that my writing is anything special. All that mattered was that they liked it. Since they were willing to take that chance on me, I decided to take a chance on a small startup company. I have known and trusted the owners for a while now, so I believe that they wouldn’t steer me wrong.

What is your writing process? Do you listen to music or do you like silence?
I write really well with my house quiet, but I have very little time when it is quiet due to my toddler. I have written with music which can be both helpful and detrimental when I want to sing along. Pretty much I just write when the inspiration hits me, and I tune out everything else going on around me.

Do you outline your story or just go where your muse takes you?
My first book had the shortest outline ever. My second didn’t have an outline at all and that allowed me to lose focus more often than not. The next one is going to have something more concrete to follow.

What kinds of marketing [twitter, facebook, blog, forums] are you involved with for promoting your book(s)?
We’re still early in the promoting process, but so far it has been on Facebook and Twitter. It will be on blogs for the tour very soon.

Besides writing, do you have any other passions?
My primary passion is taking care of my husband and son. I am expecting a new baby in January so writing will be difficult once this one is born. You could also say I am very passionate about selling my house. I spend a lot of time keeping my house clean in case we have a house showing.

#Excerpt from SILVER HEART by Victoria Green

Sawyer took off his jacket and wrapped it around my shoulders, then lead me to a dim alley on the side of the bar, gently resting my back against the cool brick wall.
“How can I help?” he asked as he stood in front of me. His tall body shielded me from the wind, and it wasn’t long before I began to regain some warmth.
I tilted up my chin toward him. “You want to help? Then kiss me.”
His lips parted, and for a moment I imagined he was going to press them against mine. He quickly tightened his jaw and shook his head. “I can’t do that. You’re clearly tipsy.”
I rose up onto my tiptoes and grazed his chin with my mouth. “Don’t make me ask again.”
He exhaled sharply. “Silver…”
“What?”
“You’ve been drinking.”
“So?” I challenged. “You’ve never kissed a tipsy girl?”
“Sure I have. But you’re not just any girl.”
“Right now, I need to feel like one,” I told him as I slowly ran my hands up the hard ridges of his abdominal muscles and over his chest, finally wrapping them around his neck. “I need to feel wanted. For me. All of me.”
Shit.” He groaned as my cold fingers entangled in his hair and tugged his face toward mine.
I’d never been so vocal about my desires. Pushed to the limits by Preston, and partly spurred on by the tequila running through my veins, I felt courageous enough to demand what I wanted.
For once in my life.
But it seemed like Sawyer wasn’t going to give in that easily. He took my hands in his and held me at arm’s length.
“Are you okay?” he asked quietly. A war between wickedly delicious lust and chivalrous constraint waged in his eyes. I silently prayed for the lust to triumph. “I meant it, Silver. Are you really okay?”
I buried my forehead in his chest and inhaled his icy scent. “I’ve never been better,” I said, diminishing the space between us. My skin heated feverishly upon contact with his body. “But I want to lose control. Again. With you.”
“Goddammit, Silver, you can’t say things like that,” he groaned.
“You’ve been telling me to let go, so here I am—letting go,” I whispered, ignoring his protest. “I need you to catch me.”
“I’m here,” he soothed.
Had he always smelled so good?
“Please touch me, Sawyer.” I felt no shame in begging. “Kiss me.”
Silver…” he growled in warning. “Stop talking. Please.”
“Then make me stop.”
“I can’t do that.”
“Yes, you can.” My heart was in pain, and he was the only one who could mend it.
Resting his hands on the wall behind me, he buried his head in my hair and inhaled sharply. “The moment my lips connect with yours, I won’t be able to stop myself from wanting all of you.” The husky roughness in his voice sent an excited shiver down my spine.
“So do it,” I urged impatiently. “Consume me. Devour me. Eat me.”
